Franziska Bergmann

Franziska Bergmann studied German, English and gender studies in Freiburg. Having held various positions at the University of Tübingen, the University of Duisburg-Essen, the University of Trier, the University of Oxford (UK), and the University of Aarhus (Denmark), she took up the Chair of Modern German Literature with a focus on Comparative Literature at FAU in 2023. Her research and teaching explores German-language, Western European, and Anglophone literature from the 18th century to the present with additional interests in the fields of theater studies, interart studies, interculturality studies, and gender studies. As a passionate theater-goer and researcher in theater studies, she is particularly interested in the relationship between theater and the public in the late 20th and early 21st centuries; as a researcher in interculturality studies and comparative literature, she also engages with current debates about world literature and the global public (Weltöffentlichkeit).
